Cruella Devil

by Pauline Alice
I’ve never been an animal print fan, but sometimes the heart wants what the heart wants! And my heart was wanting a leopard print coat so that my inner Cruella Devil could be satisfied.

Cruella-Devil-sewing-pattern-2I found the fabric in my usual fabric store, Julián López. It was on sales but still a little bit pricey, but I really liked the light
background and the furry touch. It was easy to work with as the wrong side is very similar to linen but the whole house was full of hairs for the next few days… (and I have a sewingroom so imagine!).

I chose a bright blue lining to contrast with the leopard.

As the fabric was bold enough on its own for me, I decided to use a very classic coat pattern: Burdastyle #101 from 08/2012.
It’s a good pattern: I just enlarged the collar and shortened the coat. I didn’t make any buttonholes for the moment as I wasn’t sure which one to use, but I might keep it buttonless as I like better open.
I’ve already worn it quite a lot as the weather is perfect for a light coat.
It adds interest to an otherwise simple and casual look like this one.

Oh Wow! I'm so in love with this coat! I never really like animal print, but I made a jacket with a leopard print so I know the feeling of the heart! 🙂 Great job, I'm really jealous.

Thanks Maud! Your leopard blazer is super cute and as for myself, I'm jealous of your Amelia Pond jacket!

Thanks Kirsty! It's really cool but unfortunately doesn't go with most of my wardrobe…

Ah-mazing! I bought a vintage fur coat this season and they are timeless! You'll keep this forever.

Pauline Guillet 12 February, 2014 - 2:26 pm

Thanks Maddie. The fur is really short so it's a very light coat, I like that. I also have a vintage fur coat that I love to death but can't wear it often because it's too warm in the winter where I live 😉

Lovely, lovely, lovely. Funny, I'm not a fan of animal prints either and just two weeks ago I finished a skirt in a Dalmatian print – true Cuerall DeVil style, ha, ha! This coat is lovely on you and I do like the buttonless approach. Sadly, not very practical for a Canadian winter but you've got me thinking about a spring weight buttonless long coat now.

Reply
Pauline Guillet 12 February, 2014 - 3:30 pm

Thanks Andrea! For Spring, it's a great idea, as when the day is windy, the coat is quite impractical…
